Weekend Racing Preview: Big Events, Big Names, and One Big Comeback

It’s shaping up to be an exciting weekend across Ontario’s short tracks! The summer heat is here, and so is the action. Fans can look forward to the highly anticipated Round 1 of the DAYCO Super Stocks at Peterborough Speedway, the prestigious Allan Lankin Cup for Mini Stocks at Sunset Speedway, and not one but two marquee Bone Stock events this weekend— First up is a 40-lap feature Friday night at Delaware Speedway and a 50-lapper Saturday at Peterborough Speedway. Meanwhile, Jon will be on location at Flamboro Speedway filming an all-new episode of A Day At The Races, capturing the action and stories behind the scenes.

This weekend’s Driver Spotlight features a Mini Stock competitor determined to turn things around—Charlie Smith, driver of the #95.

Driver Spotlight: Charlie Smith – #95 Mini Stock

The 2025 season has been anything but smooth for Charlie Smith and his team, but that’s not stopping them from chasing results this weekend at Sunset.

"We haven’t even finished a heat race this year," Charlie admits. "Between mechanical problems and accidents… just finishing a race would be a big goal for us right now."

Despite early-season setbacks, Charlie enters the Allan Lankin Cup with a history of strong performances. "We got 2nd in our first Lankin Cup and sat on the pole last year, although we were DQ’d. We’re hoping some of that past magic returns, even with the struggles lately."

Racing is never a solo effort, and Charlie was quick to credit the people behind him."There’s been a pile of struggles… but Robinson Racing Team, Kyle Lethbridge, Frankie Barbera, Chuck Marsh, Kevin Bridge, and all our marketing partners have kept us going with support and borrowed equipment."

As for tossing Charlie back in the driver’s seat this weekend?"We know our driver can get the job done. If he’s on his game and the car’s working, anything is possible. Every race is a new one—there are no guarantees in this sport."
